I’ve Seen an Opus, and It Is Us

Intrinsic BooksOne of the recent projects undertaken by the Intrinsic Books team is the packaging and publishing of a remarkable reference book. An Encyclopedia no less.

Mirriam Webster says an encyclopedia…

“is a work that contains information on all branches of knowledge or treats comprehensively a particular branch of knowledge usually in articles arranged alphabetically often by subject.”

What a daunting task this is, to undertake to create an encyclopedia that others will reply on to be the comprehensive source of all information on a particular subject. It was a wonderful experience.

When An Encyclopedia of the Commemorative Coins of the United States: The History, Art, Investment & Collection of America’s Memorial Coinage was published, the Library Journal review recommended it and called it “An essential, well-organized guide.”

Booklist was more effusive and said, “Swiatek’s authoritative reference to commemorative coinage impresses with its meticulous coverage and well-researched details about protecting investments in coins.”

The credit for the creation of such an authoritative tome should be given first to the experts and researchers who gather and vet the information to be presented. In this case, that entire Herculean task was handled by the one and only Anthony J. Swiatek.

I can state unequivocally that Anthony knows as much or more about American commemorative coinage than anyone on the planet. There is a reason his nickname is ‘Mr. Commemorative’ and that he is a past President of the American Numismatic Association.

Anthony provided a life’s worth of knowledge, the authoritative data, and nearly a thousand images. A life’s work! We approached the project with the same demand for perfection that Anthony Swiatek had put into gathering and confirming all the information.

The technical and financial data had to be organized into tables. The text and the entries for every commemorative coin issued by the United States Mint had to be edited and formatted. It’s a distinct advantage to have an award winning design studio involved. Our experience printing books that are 4 color throughout set us up with a superior printer.

Many years work by the author and a shade more than a year by the Intrinsic team and the ultimate reference on US Commemorative Coins was published. The wonderful reception the book has enjoyed – the great reviews and the awards the author has garnered – are a source of pride and satisfaction.

Expertise on every level is intrinsic to our work. It shows in the end results.
